We were travelling back from a meeting in the yalsar truck along the A45 in Warrickshire. We were just coming off the A45 onto the M69 when we noticed an elderly female cross the slip road and start to go down the embankment, it was obvious to the both of us that she was lost and something was wrong. It was not safe for us to park on the slip road. so we took the descision to drive around the round about onto the fly over to see where she was.As we got onto the flyover we saw the elderly femal fall down the steep embankment and fall into the hard shoulder and dangerously onto lane 1.
We both imeadeatly responded by quickly putting on our hi viz tabards and ran along the flyover and then climed down the embankment on the A45 ( which is basically a motorway) bowny had his first aid kit and went to the victim. I phoned the police on the 3 9's system whilst standing in lane 1 to usher the traffic into lane 2 to try and protct the casualty who was now moving around but obviously disoreantated. My concern was she would wonder into lane 1 and as she was still a good 100 yrds away , we would not have been able to stop her. We made contact with the casualty, bowny did a quick assesment, the lady had a large bruise to her face with a cut and a couple a grazes. We decided due to the nature of the location to take her back to safety up the slip road to our car and awaite the police and ambulance. We had to walk her back up the slip road, so i again acted as safety guy and stood some distance behind them in now lane 2 of the slip road to fend of the vehicles coming up at speed, once back at the car bowny started to treat the casualty and we awaited the prompt response from coventry and Warrickshire police and ambulance services. apparrently this junction falls on the county lines!
The lady did infact turn out to be a missing from home. When we were speaking to her she refeered to being from northern island but was trying to get back to her new house over the road. she had infact been in this country for some 30 plus years and at that time the A45 was not there, hence why she was trying to cross it lane by lane rather than use the bridge. The other noticable thing is the police are aware of here and she normally speaks with a coventry accent, but at times like these she goes back to an irish accent due to her state of mind and illness.
The lady turned out to be ok just with a few cuts and bruises, but could have been a whole lot worse if we had not been there at that time. It was a concerning thing to see that out of all the vehicles speeding down the road only 1 had stoped to try to assist!
But a good job all round
As always Yalsar giving it 100%, well done guys. Hope to see you all on the ST course soon.
