28 - 30 August 2010
Over the August Bank Holiday, YALSAR were attending the Land Rover Max Show at Stoneleigh Park, near Coventry, as Fire Marshalls, Lost Children and Out of Hours Medical Assistance.
Some of the team arrived earlier in the week to provide First Aid cover until the start of the show and it proved to be a very wet arrival. Whilst the tents were being erected, the heavens opened and there was a torrential downpour that lasted a couple of days. Great for the off road course!
Prior to the beginning of the show, YALSAR marshalled in the Air Ambulance and provided fire cover for the helicopter when they were called to attend to a young lady who had been thrown from her horse in another part of Stoneleigh Park, unconnected to Land Rover Max, and who had sustained spinal injuries after landing on the fencing surrounding the practice ring she was riding in.
During the weekend, there were several callouts to unattended bar-b-ques as well as two skip fires where people had thrown hot coals or even the whole bbq straight in!! During the evenings there were several times when the boys had to attend to Chinese lanterns that had come down within the park. Overall, the three Fire Marshals, Brett, Dave and Scottie, were particularly busy over the weekend.
Our first aiders at the show were Mike and Bowny and they attended to several minor injuries, including one lady that had a petrol remote controlled Land Rover car run into her leg. This was quite a large, heavy car and it left her quite sore and shaken up!
We had one lost child, a five year old, and very quickly the team split up to search different sections of the park, with Jules and Lisa covering the perimeter and children's area. The little boy was found within ten minutes, safe and sound in the Playbus by Jules and Lisa, much to the relief of his father.
YALSAR was also asked to participate in the '999 Spectacular' in the main arena. The scenario, was a car crash with the victim needing medical attention, provided before carried off in an ambulance. Mike and Scottie looked very professional and efficient for their acting debut.
Overall it was a very successful weekend, with everyone having enjoyed it, with plans being made for next year's event.
And finally...
It was Dave's birthday over the weekend and Brett organised a birthday shower for him, courtesy of the 6-wheeler fire truck!
